Mistral AI raises EUR 3 billion

On 8 September 2026 the French AI company Mistral AI announced a EUR 3 billion Series D round, valuing it at more than EUR 21 billion post-money.

Samsung Electronics led the round, with the EQT-managed Scaleup Europe Fund and PSG Equity as co-leads.

The funding goes to compute capacity, infrastructure, commercial growth and international expansion; the company targets 1 GW of compute in Europe by 2030.

The theme is sovereign AI: where data and models run, and under which legal framework, is now a purchasing criterion.

That trend also explains the growing interest in on-premise AI deployments — in many sectors keeping data inside the organisation is a requirement, not a preference.
