Application Integration with MCP: A Hands-On Build Night

At X Mind Solutions, we hosted a hands-on Application Integration with MCP Build Night, covering everything from the fundamentals to development steps. Originally planned for one hour, the event extended to two as the conversation unfolded. Guided by participants’ questions and contributions, we discussed what MCP is, then worked through application integration examples, eventually exploring how to write an MCP.

The event began with the question, “What is MCP?” Model Context Protocol is a protocol that enables AI applications to communicate with external tools and data sources through a standardized structure. This foundation helps us think of application integration not only as connecting systems, but also as defining which tools AI can access and how. During the session, we combined this conceptual introduction with practical examples.

One of the examples we examined was the THY MCP. Looking at an existing example provides a starting point for understanding MCP beyond an abstract definition. What matters here is less the name of an integration than understanding how the relationship between an AI application and the tools it will access is established. Our exploration formed part of the event’s progression from what MCP is to how to write one.

In the hands-on portion, we worked through integration examples using the MCP we developed for our own n8n server. This allowed us to go beyond examining an external example and explore the subject through our own MCP as well. When working with automation tools such as n8n, MCP can be used to define the capabilities made available to AI applications. In this approach, the scope of tools, access permissions, and operations to be executed are aspects of integration design that require careful consideration.

What took the session from an introductory definition to the development stage was the combination of explanations, hands-on work, and an exchange of questions. The extension to two hours was also a natural result of the conversation’s flow. At X Mind Solutions, we thank everyone who attended, asked questions, and contributed.
